Fast T1 Mapping

Stuart Clare, Peter Jezzard

Axial T1 map

Rapid T1 mapping using Multislice EPI. Quantitative maps of T1 covering the whole brain in 2 x 2 x 2 mm3 resolution are acquired in three minutes. The images acquired at each inversion time are fitted to an inversion recovery curve using a two stage fitting algorithm which gives accurate and reliable results. T1 maps are being obtained on patients with multiple sclerosis and motor-neuron disease to test if such quantitative measurements can be used as a surrogate marker for disease progression.
