Patients who had suffered a stroke were scanned twice before and twice after a two week period of rehabilitation therapy for arm and hand. The coloured areas showed an increase in activity after therapy that correlated with the improvement in hand function after therapy. Changes in these areas are therefore associated with succesful rehabilitation (see Johansen-Berg H, Dawes H, Guy C, Wade D and Matthews PM. An fMRI study of the neurobiological basis for motor rehabilitation after stroke. Brain, in press)
