The Arcadian Singers of Oxford was founded in 1976 as a madrigal choir.
It is made up of roughly 25 singers, mainly consisting of students and staff of the University. We perform at least one concert a term in Oxford, and also participate in a number of other musical ventures both in and outside the city. Over the past five years the Arcadian Singers have recorded two successful CDs, broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and toured yearly. We are regularly invited to contribute to the Easter Liturgy at Ampleforth Abbey in Yorkshire.
Recently we have performed programmes in Keble, Exeter, Brasenose, Hertford and Permbroke College chapels. We have also sung at Westminster Abbey and St Paul’s Cathedral.
The Arcadians have a reputation for being one of the most friendly University choirs. We regularly visit the pub after rehearsals and always follow our concerts with a social event such as a meal.
We rehearse once a week during term-time, with extra rehearsals in the run-up to concerts.
